The Forever Reef
Project

At a time when coral reefs around the world are disappearing, the Forever Reef Project is creating a living 'coral ark' — protecting coral species before they are lost forever.

Located in Port Douglas, this world-first, publicly accessible living coral biobank is already home to more than half of the Great Barrier Reef's coral species.

By safeguarding living corals and their genetic diversity, the Forever Reef Project is helping secure the future of reefs — and all life that depends on them.

A key part of the Forever Reef Project is the leadership of Traditional Custodians — caring for coral on Country, as they have cared for these waters for generations...

The Stakes

Why It
Matters

Coral reefs are in rapid decline as climate change drives rising ocean temperatures, bleaching events, and biodiversity loss. The consequences are profound.

As reefs disappear, we risk losing not only extraordinary ecosystems — but the life, economies, and cultures that depend on them.

25% Of all marine
species depend
on coral reefs
1B+ People worldwide
